Why study abroad in Quito.. or at all for that matter?
There are many reasons why I've decided to study abroad, and why I specifically chose Quito over any other place.
Studying abroad is something that I've always wanted to do, but until now, I've always been too scared. But as I am nearing graduation, I realized that if I really want to make this a reality, I need to do it soon!
So how did I pick Ecuador? Well, I knew that I wanted to go to a Spanish speaking country. I LOVE the language, and really hope to become fluent (if not, close to it)! While all the trips going to Spain where either 5 weeks, or 6 months to a year, I found the length of the Ecuador trip, which is 10 weeks, to be perfect. (10 weeks in Ecuador was also the same price as the 5 week trip in Spain!) Most of the Spanish spoken here in the US is closer to that of South and Latin America, the Ecuador program seemed the better choice!
Lastly, I want to make a difference! I want to take the time and volunteer in the orphanage and learn more about myself! So many people that I have talked to said that studying abroad, for them, was " ..a life changing experience,". I want to see the world, experience a new way of living, challenge myself to become fluent in Spnaish , and give myself a chance to just admire God's creation and get to know Him more! Also, I am excited to just SLOW DOWN. It will be the first time since I was 15 years old that I will not have a job, or making myself busy doing a million other things. I can't wait to learn more about the language, myself, and MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
